Matteo Politano was one of Inter's best footballers last season. This year, thanks to the module not exactly congenial to its characteristics, it ended up on the margins. But the former Sassuolo player showed he could make the difference in the Nerazzurri shirt. Is there still room for him in Inter?
AT THE MARGINI – Politano, who tiptoed from the Sassuolo during the last summer market, was immediately able to impose himself on the Nerazzurri chess board of the then coach Luciano Spalletti , ousting Antonio Candreva from the right-hand place of holder and offering excellent performances, which they had earned him the favor of the Nerazzurri public. This season however, since the advent of Antonio Conte on the bench of Inter, things seem to go in a diametrically opposite way. After a fairly positive start, with good performances offered in the first part of the season, the Roman player has found less and less space. Its characteristics are difficult to place in a 3-5-2 and, the definitive explosion of Lautaro Martinez , has reduced to the bone its chances to establish itself as owner. In recent times, moreover, Conte seems to prefer Sebastiano Esposito, a young Nerazzurri talent who has already impressed all the experts.
WHICH FUTURE? – So, is there room for Politano in this Inter? With the return of Sanchez and Esposito's explosion, probably not. It is purely an offensive wing, a role not expected in Conte's 3-5-2. It was untangled well, at the time of Sassuolo, also as the first striker but, at the moment, the Lukaku-Lautaro pair appears untouchable. The love story between Politano and Inter therefore could end, with the Italian footballer who, in order to gain a place in the Italian squad for the next European, could decide to go and try his luck (and minutes played) elsewhere.
